Capabilities
Our design and engineering team is prepared to develop your project from drawings, CAD, or Solid Works software. The team is skilled in prototyping and sampling using its indigenous single needle, double needle, and specialty sewing machines.
Staff
The design and engineering team is comprised of a team engineer, a lead design sewer and three supporting design sewers. We have a qualified military parachute rigger and two engineers on staff. Our field sales force can assist you in communicating your requirements if needed.
Design
With over 1500 designs hanging on our walls, our designers have the experience and depth of knowledge to bring your concept to fruition. You can provide a general design concept/requirement and allow our design team to create a product solution, or you can provide detailed product schematics and our engineers can be contracted to perform the prototyping as requested.
Process
- 1. Our customers typically begin by familiarizing themselves with our operation and process here on the website.
- 2. Next we ask you to fill in your information and design specifications in the "Getting Started" document below, this opens a file with our design section and generates a work order.
- 3. We will contact you to discuss the project and after receiving a deposit will begin.
- 4. We will create a prototype and then begin a process of transmitting either representations of the product or a prototype of the product.
- 5. We will send this for your approval, and if changes are needed, will go back and forth until an approved sample can be achieved.
- 6. The design process is complete when a prototype is complete and signed off by the customer as "approved".
Prototyping
The standard method of design for S.O.TECH is to product a prototype for customer approval. We can also produce schematics and engineering charts upon request. Prototypes can be a time consuming and/or costly process, but the practice of prototyping is the optimal method to achieving an error-free production run.
Sampling
Once a prototype is produced, S.O.TECH will be happy to provide samples for design meeting and conferences. Samples are generally less expensive than prototypes, but still relatively costly compared to the production run. S.O.TECH has a special team of sewers that specialize in short run specialty production.
Materials
S.O.TECH maintains a stock of standard military tactical nylon and fire retardant Nomex cloth (1000 Denier and 500 Denier) as well as appropriate nylon webbings, seam tapes, metal/plastic fasteners and buckles, hook and loop, foams, meshes, vinyl, plastic stiffeners and liners. Being fortunately located near the Los Angeles garment district means we can procure most cloths, webs, and fasteners quickly and efficiently.
Colors
While S.O.TECH stocks most military colors and camouflage patterns, we can also easily access most commercially available colors. For specialized colors, dye lots are available but minimum yardage will need to be purchased and this will incur significant expense. For a list of our available colors, please visit: http://specopstech.com/osc/StColors.PHP
Policies
S.O.TECH evaluates requests for custom items on a case-by-case basis. Preference is given to established companies, existing products, proven sales channels, and the likelihood of future orders. Military and tactical gear products are also given preferred consideration.
Costs
Custom Work prices:
$40 for first hour
$30 for each additional hour
We try to keep rates low while also using the best materials and labor available. Rates reflect labor, materials, machine repairs, insurance, and physical plant expenses. Larger orders will decrease over price per unit since more efficient procedures of mass production can then be utilized to reduce production cost.
General Custom Project estimates:
Tactical Vests: $200 ~$600
Holsters: $75 ~ $100
Pouches: $40 ~$80
Bags: $70 ~ $600
